Who Are We?
We are a small American family living in Holy Mother Amma's Ashram, the M.A. Math, in Amritapuri, Kerala, a state in the southwest of India. Holy Mother Amma is also known as Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Amma, and more popularly outside of India, as the 'Hugging Saint.' Our immediate family consists of Linkesh (son), Anni (daughter), and P. Kamala Willey Diwan (mother). Mom prefers to be addressed as "Aunty Kamala." Our experiences of growing-up and living in Holy Mother Amma's ashram community of Truth seekers from around the world for over a decade, has impressed us with the essential and crucial need for the re-establishment of an ethical outlook on life: in our human relations to one another, and to the Earth. We see our present planetary situation as being rooted in an ethical crisis, caused by mass confusion about the ideals we follow and the subsequent effect this has had upon our personal, familial, community lives, and holistically upon human society and planet health.
To foster the ideals and teachings that we have experienced and seen in Holy Mother Amma and studied through M.K. Gandhi, we have started Wise Earth Publishers and Earth Ethics (this site) as a sister site to Wise Earth. It is our prayer that these efforts will assist humanity in arriving at clarity and consensus on our ideals for ethically refining human culture.
As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. noted:
"Gandhi is inevitable. If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought and acted, inspired by the vision of humanity evolving towards a world of peace and harmony. We may ignore Gandhi at our own risk."
We have found that Holy Mother Amma embodies the ideals that Gandhi focused his life upon: Truth and Love; that she demonstrates the principle of Equal Vision of all. In his relations to his fellow human beings, Gandhi sought to awaken himself to the immaculate purity of a true Mother's Love in his own heart. Holy Mother Amma pours forth this Great Compassion, the Unconditional Love of the Great Mother, in an oceanic deluge. She embodies the principle Universal Motherhood, the fully blossomed Heart, an aspect of Truth which she declares is present in each one of us and a potentially experiential reality. Her life's message and teachings bring the perennial ideals of Gandhi's Earth Ethics, to our present day and conditions.
History
Originally from the USA, we moved to Amritapuri in 1999 to be in the presence of Holy Mother Amma. In 2007, Anni died after almost 4 months of terrible suffering from an unknown cancer, at 19. This site is dedicated to her, and to her spirit, which inspires us still, and we know is with us, and is actually, our Anni. May all our precious children rise, to fearlessly face the coming Dawn, knowing that they are part of life-unending, and find their way to do their part to establish a noble human society.
Future
This site provides a place for people interested in the Universals of Ethical Life, to participate in projects, build and contribute to this knowledge pool, and be the change they want to see. It continues and furthers the discussion, refinement of understanding, and applications of the ideals of Earth Ethics seen in Gandhi and Holy Mother Amma.
